YMCA  HEART FIT 



Helping all Australians stay active for life!

Heart Fit is a gentle physical activity program suitable for anyone who hasn’t done any exercise for a while. You can exercise at your own pace in a friendly atmosphere. Heart Fit is designed to be safe for people with health conditions like heart disease, diabetes and bone or joint problems. Classes are run by accredited exercise professionals specifically trained in managing safe, low to moderate intensity physical activity programs.

Heart Fit can help:

  • Lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol control
  • Manage weight
  • Improve well being, quality of life and sleep 
  • Manage diabetes
  • Improve balance and flexibility
  • Improve bone mineral density with arthritis management 
  • Prevent falls and injuries from falls

HEARTFIT SHOWS RESULTS

Many of our participants are experiencing various improves to their fitness, here what some of them had to say:

‘My cardio and lung capacity has improved immensely. I can also see my balance and coordination improving but the thing I love the most about the class is the beautiful bunch of people that attend and that is what keeps me coming back to every class’ 

‘I can now tie my shoe laces and pick things up off the floor which before the program I couldn’t do. The increased flexibility I now have has made my life a lot easier.’ 

‘The program has helped me with my with general mobility. Gardening and chopping wood has become easier now that I can bend without any problems.’ 

‘I enjoy attending the class and try to come twice a week. The classes allow me to become more active and has help my arthritis, neck and shoulder problems.’ 

‘Until the program I’ve battled with stiff shoulders and reduced mobility of my arms. Now I can reach and stretch my arms further without pain. I generally feel better and can see improvements all over my body. I like the good mixture of exercises each class has to offer.’

‘Attending the class has restored my loss of strength and has loosed stiff muscles I’ve had for awhile. As a past gym user, I was used to heavy weight lifting and long cardio sessions, I initially thought the program exercises were novice but I have found it to be just as good of a work out with similar results and less stress on the body.’
